Unconscious Power Animal Experiences
During the Shamanic Journey, one may find what is known in contemporary Shamanism as "Power Animals." These Power Animals appear in the Journey spontaneously to help the Shaman achieve his or her purpose. Below are some examples of Power Animals. These Animals appear in a book that I have written (and soon desire to publish) called "Sun and Thunder, Wind and Fire: The Wisdom of River, The Shaman". These animals come from my own unique experiences of Shamanic Journeying.
Cousin Bear
Cousin Bear is an
unconscious nature-symbol; a metaphor for resourcefulness, instinct, power,
inner cleansing and inward healing. With
his breath he can blow healing into the nostrils and lungs of his Shamanic
seer. And he can, at will, explore and
heal the inward organs of the Shamanic seer.
He instantly knows what to do in every situation and passes his wisdom
on to the Shaman. Cousin Bear is,
therefore, a source of healing, strength, wisdom, and spirit energy. He resides in the Lower World but also
manifests himself in the Middle World.
Brother Fox
Brother Fox is an
unconscious nature-symbol that lives in the Middle World, the World of the
Conscious mind. He, however, can descend
into the Lower World and knows it well.
Because of this, he has knowledge of both worlds. His sole purpose is to empower the individual
to make right choices. -He does so by
teaching the individual to manage the antithetical Middle World of truth and
falsity, good and evil, justice and injustice, purity and impurity and so much
more. His primary role is to teach the
individual the twofold art of problem solving and decision making. -He does so by showing her the power of
syllogistic thinking. Furthermore,
Brother Fox enables the individual to manage the Shadow through Reason, Common
Sense and Practicality.
Note: Brother Fox also teaches the individual to
manage one’s emotions. Self-mastery is a
life-long process. –Manage yourself and
you will manage your choices; manage your choices and you will manage your
destiny.
Grand Eagle is an
unconscious nature-symbol that lives in the Upper World. He can freely soar into the Middle and Lower
Worlds as well. This majestic bird
helps one transcend to the Upper World through imparting spiritual insight,
intuition, transformational energy and more.
He empowers the Shaman to see beyond the physical and to sense higher
truths. The eagle has keen eyesight,
swiftness, power and instinct and is, therefore, able to pass these traits on
to the Shaman while s/he is Journeying.
